Telemedicine

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is the set of communication, medical and computer techniques used for diagnostic purposes, to provide health services or to enable the treatment of a patient at a distance. It represents the set of networked computer technology resources used in the field of health and healthcare.

Telemedicine allows a patient to communicate with a physician if he/she is unable to travel physically.

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine uses the help of computer tools (cell phones, laptops, tablets, etc.) to establish the relationship between the doctor and the patient through the use of the Internet. This branch of telemedicine is called e-health.

Why is it used?

Through telemedicine, the patient can communicate with a specialist physician if he/she is unable to travel physically or if he/she needs an opinion before making a visit. Telemedicine also allows the patient to request a “second opinion”, i.e. to seek the opinion of another physician who is a specialist in a specific pathological area. This will allow the patient to compare, confirm or re-evaluate an initial diagnosis or therapeutic indication and to resolve uncertainties, indecision and doubts.
