What is the Liposcale test?

The Liposcale test is an advanced lipoprotein test based on the use of 2D Nuclear Magnetic Resonance to determine the size and number of particles for the main types of lipoproteins.

Liposcale allows to analyze results in a very precise way and with higher accuracy than other methods currently used thanks to resonance spectroscopy.

In this way, Liposcale has the ability to provide information on whether a patient is at risk of developing any type of cardiovascular disease.

Cholesterol is the most important and most commonly used lipid factor in assessing a person’s risk of cardiovascular disease. However, about half of the people with cardiovascular disease have healthy cholesterol levels.

What is the Liposcale test?

The test is based on 2D Nuclear Magnetic Resonance electroscopy, which has the capacity to characterize the size and number of particles of the main classes of lipoproteins, as well as the concentration of particles of these subclasses.

At the moment the test has been performed, the specialist physician is given a report that makes it possible to clearly observe whether or not there is a risk of developing some type of cardiovascular disease, so that its treatment can be prevented.

Why is the Liposcale test performed?

This test is performed to determine both the number and size of cholesterol-carrying lipoprotein particles, regardless of their lipid content.

About half of the people with healthy cholesterol values may suffer from cardiovascular disease, so knowing these values may not be enough.

People with similar cholesterol values but different lipoprotein patterns will have different chances of developing cardiovascular disease.

Preparation for the Liposcale test

No special preparation is required for the test. The basic requirement for this test is a fasting period of at least eight hours.

Meaning of results

Once the test has been performed, the results will be delivered within ten to fifteen days after the test.
