Reendodontics

What is reendodontics?

Reendodontics is the treatment that aims to improve the initial endodontic therapy by removing the materials found in the root canal of the tooth and the subsequent cleaning, shaping and filling of the tooth.

Why is it performed?

Re-endodontics is used in cases where the initial endodontic therapy has not had a positive result. Therefore, this treatment is used only in cases where the tooth element has been damaged by an infection caused by bacteria that have invaded the canal through coronal microfiltrations.

What does it consist of?

Once the dentist has determined that a reendodontics can be performed, he will first proceed with local anesthesia to operate without the patient feeling any pain. Subsequently, a cavity will be made to reach the inside of the tooth, and the material previously used during the endodontic treatment will be removed. At this point, the root canal will be irrigated with sodium hypochlorite to eliminate any microorganisms. Finally, the canal will be filled with gutta percha, a plastic and heat moldable material, and sealer cement.
