Brachioplasty

What is brachioplasty?

Arm lift, also called brachioplasty, is the surgery applied to remove unsightly excess skin from the arms in order to improve their appearance to make them firmer and smoother. In mild cases, the arm lift can be performed using less invasive techniques and under local anesthesia, as well as surgery may be required under general anesthesia in more advanced cases.

Why is it performed?

With age, especially after the age of 40, flaccidity begins to appear, especially in women. The arms are an area where flaccidity is very visible and many women have a complex about it. It is possible to distinguish different degrees of flaccidity in the contour of the arms, since depending on its severity, the specialist in Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery can use different techniques.

What does brachioplasty surgery consist of?

Brachioplasty surgery consists of making an incision on the inner side of the upper arm, to remove excess skin. In more severe cases, it may even require a cut from the armpit to the elbow, always on the inside of the arm. Through this incision, all the excess skin is removed. In cases where the patient also wants to remove excess fat from the arms, this procedure can be combined with liposuction. In general, the bbrachioplasty usually lasts about 2 hours.

Preparation for the procedure

In the pre-surgery consultation, the patient’s health will be evaluated and the patient will be told how to prepare for the operation depending on his or her state of health: whether to stop smoking, take iron supplements, etc.
