Podoposturology

What is podoposturology?

Podoposturology is the study used to treat and address the posture of the body, with the goal of achieving correct joint mechanics and proper functioning of our body.

The relationship between the support of the feet and the postural adaptation that occurs triggered by possible dysfunctions in the correct distribution of loads, are widely known by specialists in Podiatry, Osteopathy and Physiotherapy.

Podoposturology is the study used to treat and address the posture of the body.

Why is it performed?

It is important to perform a podopostural study when some clinical symptoms appear in the following parts of the body:

  • Feet
  • Knees
  • Hip
  • Back

It is also highly recommended for athletes, whether they are professionals or not, since the impact of a bad footfall or incorrect posture can be a major cause of injuries and muscle pain. In this sense, thanks to podoposturology, it is possible to prevent and treat the different postural and biomechanical dysfunctions in a comfortable and simple way.

What does it consist of?

The evaluation with the specialist will be based on an examination of the postural tonic system, with the help of examination and postural tests. By means of the biomechanical study, a precise diagnosis is made to identify possible problems.

Once the results are evaluated, we proceed to the development of customized insoles to the problem that the patient may present. Regarding the insoles, we identify two types:

  • Thermo-moldable insoles, which serve to absorb impacts and improve comfort.
  • Proprioceptive insoles, which are used to correct improper posture.

The insoles, made to measure, use the principles of human neurophysiology, with the aim of reducing pressure and distributing the reaction force of the ground in the plantar region. These insoles have a thickness of between one and four millimeters, allowing them to be adapted to a wide variety of footwear.

Preparation for podoposturology

Podoposturology studies do not require any special preparation on the part of the patient, since there are no complications.

Alternatives to this treatment

The footprint study can also serve as a complementary study to identify problems related to podoposturology.
