What is lip augmentation surgery?

Lip augmentation and lip reshaping consists of modifying the appearance of the patient’s lips. In many cases it is not a volume increase, but the lips are better outlined and defined, to achieve a better proportion or projection.

To perform the augmentation, an ointment or localized cold is applied to the patient to reduce sensitivity.

Why is lip augmentation performed?

We can undergo lip augmentation to thicken the lips, outline them, give them firmness or raise the corners of the mouth. Depending on the patient’s needs, it will be performed to rejuvenate the lip, outline it, mark the cupid’s bow, add more volume or correct asymmetries.

In fact, anyone can be a candidate for lip augmentation, based on lip beautification, and always with natural results.

Thickening, contouring, firming or lifting of the corners of the lips can be achieved.

What does lip augmentation surgery consist of?

To augment the lips, fillers such as hyaluronic acid, a component that provides volume and stimulates the production of collagen, or fat extracted from the patient himself, previously purified, can be used. Both types of fillers achieve a natural and immediate effect upon infiltration, although as they are materials that can be reabsorbed by the body, their effect diminishes progressively over time.

The intervention usually lasts between 20 and 40 minutes, and its result between 6 months and a year, but the treatment can be repeated after that time. If a definitive lip augmentation is desired, a cheiloplasty must be performed, which is an operation in which different techniques of implants or grafts are used (which can be of the patient’s own fat or other substances, such as collagen or goretex) to increase the thickness of the lips.
