My experience in the treatment of uterine fibroids

15 years ago, together with Dr. Lorenzo Garcia and Dr. Lanciego, interventional radiologists, we started our journey in the conservative treatment of uterine fibroids. Since then, we have received international recognition for our work.

In 2006, my doctoral thesis on Doppler diagnosis versus MRI received the award for the best Doctoral Thesis in Surgery from the Complutense University of Madrid; it also received another award for the best Doctoral Thesis from Castilla-La Mancha.

We also received awards in the USA; one of them from the most prestigious Journal of Interventional Radiology, AJVIR, for one of the three best articles of the year (out of 500 articles).

Another recognition of our professional trajectory was obtained in China, at the World Congress for the strategies applied for the decrease in the rate of hysterectomies for myomas.

On the other hand, I have led the Consensus Document of myomas of the Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SEGO) of 2012, and the protocol 2013, 2015; I am currently developing the 2017 protocol for the management of myomas for all gynecologists of the Spanish Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (SEGO).

Pending publication of the 2017 myoma protocol.

The technique of Radiofrequency by vaginal route has been introduced in Spain by Dr. Victoria Rey, Gynecologist and Medical Director of the Care Clinic in Seville.

Currently in our offices (in Hospital Quirón Salud Toledo and Clinica Santa Elena) patients come from anywhere in Spain or abroad and are evaluated in one day, the next day they are treated and then they can take the plane back home.
