Obesity increases by 10% in Spain

Obesity levels have increased in Spain in adults as well as in children and adolescents. Food, schedules and lifestyle habits influence our health, increasing in recent years the incidence of obesity and even more overweight. For the World Obesity Day it is important to review the figures of this pathology, which is an important risk factor for diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory diseases, vascular accidents, bone and joint problems, kidney problems and even some types of cancer.

Currently, 23% of adults suffer from obesity, while those who are overweight are 38%, and 1.2% are morbidly obese, the most severe and therefore the most dangerous form of obesity. In childhood, 25% of children are overweight and 15% are obese. Thus, 2 out of 10 children are currently overweight and 1 out of 10 obese.

Data provided by INE surveys and the newspaper La Información show an upward trend in the incidence of obesity. Some studies predict a continuity of this tendency to increase, for this reason it is important to reinforce healthy eating habits and active life, especially in children and adolescents.
