What should you know before getting implants?

Dental implants allow you to speak, smile and chew as easily as with your own teeth. When we lose a tooth, its replacement cannot be an option, since all our teeth have a function in chewing.

If the missing teeth are not replaced, the rest will have to do all the work, which can lead to esthetic alterations, chewing problems and even digestive problems.

Nowadays we are surrounded by offers and discounts on implants, but we must go beyond the price and know how to distinguish the quality behind them.

Are all dental implants the same?

No, dental implants are not all the same and they do not all behave in the same way. In fact, each implant varies with respect to the reliability of its short and long term results.

Implants are manufactured in titanium, but the treatment (physical and chemical) of its surface as well as the reliability of its attachments to make the prosthesis, will make the difference.

In Spain alone there are more than 250 types of implants. However, very few have been endorsed by science in the long term and in the different clinical situations that can occur.

As an implantologist and head of the Centro Avanzado de Odontología Satorres, we always work with leading brands of implants and first class laboratories.

Advantages of an implant of optimum quality: “Cheap can be expensive”.

  • Reduces the chances of implant failure in both the long and short term.
  • Shorter treatment periods for the patient.
  • Procedures are simplified and the desired objectives are achieved, thus lowering costs without compromising results.
  • It minimizes the risk of surgery, since its quality reduces the number of implants necessary to solve a case.

At what age can I have implants?

To place implants, the most important thing is to have fully developed maxillary and mandibular bones. This is usually from the age of 18.

From that age onwards implants can be placed knowing that they do not generate rejection or allergies in most cases, as long as all the dentist’s indications are followed.

How long does the implant last?

It is often said that implants are a long and painful process. It is true that it can be longer if previous techniques such as bone augmentation are required. But normally between three and six months you should have the treatment completed.
