Do you know the different dental esthetic treatments?

What treatments are part of the so-called dental aesthetics?

Within the dental aesthetics we have:

  • Both ceramic and composite veneers: both serve to improve or completely change the smile. This treatment requires a minimally invasive preparation, which preserves the integrity of the dental structure.
  • Tooth whitening: serves to restore the original white of the teeth without touching or damaging the surface to be treated. It can be performed either in the clinic (more comfortable for the patient) or at home. At Maxiloclinic we have the latest generation equipment, so that cases of sensitivity will no longer be a problem for this type of treatment.
  • Oral rehabilitation in general: the objective is to recover not only esthetics but also function, especially in those cases where one or more teeth are missing.
  • We also treat those cases where all the teeth are missing, helping the patient to recover esthetics and function.

What problems can be treated and why is it important to treat them?

Dental esthetics can solve problems of color, shape and even function, helping the person to regain confidence and self-esteem.

Can all patients have recourse to these treatments or are there any contraindications?

Each case is studied individually, so each patient is presented with the most appropriate treatment options for his or her case.

In the case of veneers, if an in-depth change of color and shape is required, the treatment will require a preparation of the tooth surface to achieve a more natural result.

If slight changes in shape or size are needed, or to unify the surface due to slight staining, we will choose “Non prep” veneers, which do not require any type of surface preparation.

In all cases the material will depend on the patient’s needs, always guaranteeing the highest quality.

Among the contraindications we have an occlusion that may compromise long-term durability, or the presence of multiple restorations or bridges in the area to be treated.

Whitening can be performed in most patients, except for severe staining caused by tetracyclines, smoking patients (consult with the specialist) or in case of pregnancy. It can be performed either in the clinic or at home, depending on the patient’s needs.

Finally, with oral rehabilitations, a solution can always be given to the patient to recover esthetics and function, the limitations of each case will be determined by the general health of the patient, availability or feasibility of the treatment, so that a multidisciplinary action (of several specialists) may be required.

Are the results favorable or will it be necessary to reintervene the patient after some time?

In any case there is always a favorable result and people meet their expectations, thanks to the previous study of their case and the personalized treatment. There is rarely a need for re-intervention, and if this is the case, it is always explained to the patient beforehand that the type of treatment will need to be reinforced or changed over time. The most important thing is to have regular visits and proper maintenance by the patient and the specialist to ensure a satisfactory long-term result.
