What is the technique of orthodontic micro-implants?

Orthodontic micro-implants are used in the treatment of teeth repositioning, as a support to move teeth or molars to be moved to create harmony in the mouth, aligning the pieces. And above all it is applied in cases of adult orthodontics.

In Dentaesthetic Corporation we use this technique in the placement of dental implants (that is, when a piece is missing leaving a hole in the gum, and there the implant is placed and then a crown). This has the advantage that the open surgery normally used to place an implant is replaced by a minimally invasive surgery. With better healing and less discomfort for patients. And, of course, with better results in the fixation of the implant, while minimizing the risks of possible infection.

For which patients is it intended?

Patients with a good bone base, so this technique cannot be performed in all cases. We recommend it to people who are afraid of surgery, or who fear that complications may arise after the intervention.

How is it different from open surgery?

Using the method used in orthodontic micro-implants, the surgery to place a dental implant changes completely. There is no longer a large incision, but it is minimal, in the form of a small crescent (from where we introduce the implant).

Sometimes stitches are not necessary, but only the application of a biological “glue”. We can compare it to an intervention on the knee, which can be conventional – “opening” the knee- or by means of an arthroscopy (minimally invasive, performed through a thin tube). In our case, the fine incision we made to insert the implant would be comparable to this second option, which is much less aggressive.

Are there any risks or adverse effects for the patient?

Any surgery has some risks, but with the technique we use, these are greatly reduced. As I mentioned before, the risk of infection is minimal. It must be taken into account that if the wound caused by the incision becomes infected, the implant may tend to fall out. And that does not usually happen with the method that characterizes our clinic.

How are the results?

The word of mouth of our patients confirms it. This type of minimally invasive surgery means that the implant is better fixed, there is better healing and less discomfort. Therefore, we are talking about fewer surgical and post-surgical complications.
