What are facial fillers or implants?

Facial implants are biocompatible materials that are introduced in different areas of the face, with the objective of correcting in a natural way the aspect of the cheekbones, lips, facial oval, cheeks.

The most used product nowadays is Hyaluronic Acid because it is a safe molecule, with many benefits, such as moisturizing the treated area, stimulating collagen and elastin or giving volume to facial areas that, as the years go by, are lost.

There are other substances, such as calcium hydroxyapatite, which can be used as a filler in certain areas, although its primary function is the biostimulation of the skin.

Uses of facial fillers

The areas that can be treated with facial fillers or implants are the following:

1. peribuccal area: to treat the commonly called (“bar code”). Wrinkle correction is obtained without changing the expression.

2. Nasolabial area: Fills this area, which is very marked with age, as it is in continuous movement, achieving a younger appearance.

3. Marionette lines: These are vertical lines around the mouth that extend to the sides of the chin. These lines are filled in to eliminate expression wrinkles.

4. Cheekbones: Restores the roundness of the cheekbone giving a youthful volume.

5. Cheeks: Increases the volume lost by the natural passage of time or by the loss of teeth.

6. Facial oval: Restores the facial oval, due to skin sagging that occurs with the passage of time.

7. Lips: It is used to recover the outline, increase its volume, strengthen the corners of the lips and lip hydration.

This treatment can be performed at any time of the year and the duration of the procedure is from 30 minutes to 1 hour. It does not require sick leave, since it is an outpatient treatment.

Contraindications of facial fillers

Facial implants or fillers are not recommended in pregnant or breastfeeding patients, in people suffering from any disease, in people who have permanent implants and in people who have any bacterial or viral infection such as herpes in the area to be treated. Even so, the contraindications are still very few and it is a treatment that has the maximum safety.
