Probodyone Program for Artists

Singing or playing a musical instrument can be a very rewarding activity, but one should not lose sight of the physical suffering it can cause. In fact, it is estimated that three out of four orchestral musicians suffer from different pathologies depending on their relationship with the instrument throughout their career.

Thus, a study conducted among 56 international orchestras showed that half of the musicians feel pain during performance, and more than 80% considered that their education had not prepared them for such physical and psychological suffering.

The voice, the singer’s instrument

The voice is generated through movement, although its adjustment is linked to physical qualities such as intensity, pitch or timbre. The body, the posture… are conditioning factors for the voice to express itself fully.

The mind, in turn, is a fundamental pillar for the singer, since factors such as emotion or stress can cause alterations in the mind and voice.

Thus, the posture, the balance of the legs together with the pelvis and the vertebral curves, as well as the anchoring of the feet on the ground and the free circulation of the airway and the relaxation of the jaw or tongue, are key structural elements in the transmission of sound.

To summarize, it is worth mentioning that more than a hundred muscles are directly involved in singing, so that the adjustment of the global muscle tone allows or not to project your voice better. The global muscle action is coordinated with the muscles of the pharynx and larynx.

Thus, being in harmony with the body and mind frees the body from tensions, discomfort and/or pain that can alter the structures of the brain and nervous system.

The Probodyone Artist Program seeks to optimize the axis formed between body and mind with a synergistic and holistic work philosophy that allows the singer to express his or her potential along with vocal production.

The couple formed between the musician and the instrument

When there are health problems related to the execution of the instrument, in some cases musicians have to abandon their activity. Although in many cases they are not serious, these problems are difficult for the musician to accept in his quest for perfection.

Stage fright and stress can be emotions which, if well channeled, can give the musician greater potential.

The most common physical disorders are stress, focal dystonia and overload. Musculoskeletal and other similar disorders are related to repetitive strain and inadequate posture, although they increase with intensity and with the passage of time.

Most frequent illnesses in musicians

There are a series of illnesses associated with the diseases and pathologies suffered by musicians:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Musculo-skeletal disorders
  • Tendinopathies and tendinitis
  • Gastroesophageal reflux
  • Laryngitis
  • Nerve compression syndrome
  • Shoulder dystonia
  • Radial nerve compression
  • Hyperacusis

Trauma to the neck is also frequent, due to blows to the head that may generate some neurological risk.

Musician’s focal dystonia is a condition that occurs under the appearance of motor disorders, causing involuntary contractions in some muscles. Musicians are often affected in the hand and mouth muscles when the instrument is a wind instrument.

Frequent diseases of the dancer

  • Musculoskeletal disorders
  • Osgood-Schlatter’s disease
  • Tibio-talar impingement syndrome
  • Sever’s disease
  • Joint hyperlaxity
  • Osteoarthritis of the hip
  • Femoroacetabular impingement
  • Acetabular labral tears

The Probodyone for Artists program provides mental, physical and energetic development through a synergistic action that can meet the needs of dancers, musicians and singers.
