Do you know the new noninvasive technique for heart pathologies?

STENDO is a novel non-invasive system for the treatment of refractory angina, heart failure and other related pathologies, by means of the first synchronized external counterpulsation equipment in Spain, which is available at the Basilea Clinic in Madrid.

STENDO: treatment of vascular stimulation by synchronized external counterpulsation

STENDO is a device for stimulation of the cardiovascular system through synchronized external counterpulsation that promotes the production of nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a molecule that the body produces to assist its 50 trillion cells in their vital functions. Without it, life would not be possible.

The medical applications of internal nitric oxide are numerous. This is thanks to the work of the Nobel Prize winners (Furchgott, Murad and Ignarro) and Moncada, who highlighted the preponderant role of nitric oxide in cardiovascular physiology to permanently maintain an effective “vasodilator tone”.

Main indications for STENDO:

  • Coronary artery disease (angina, myocardial ischemia and infarction).
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Anti-aging medicine
  • Venous and lymphatic insufficiency
  • Essential arterial hypertension and primary pulmonary hypertension
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Sports medicine
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia

Benefits and contraindications of STENDO

Benefits of STENDO:

  • Increased arterial and venous vasodilation.
  • Improvement of blood circulation and microcirculation.
  • Reduction of angina by more than 80%, which prevents heart attack and stroke.
  • Improvement of heart failure symptoms by more than 75%.
  • Improvement of cardiac function by increasing blood flow.
  • Anti-aging effect.
  • Lymphatic drainage enhancement.
  • Anti-thrombotic and anti-embolic action.
  • Blood pressure regulation by dilation of the arteries.
  • Improvement of memory and cognitive capacity.
  • Facilitates rapid sports recovery.
  • Activates the preparation for physical exercise.

Contraindications of STENDO

Cardiology experts explain that, although there is no conclusive data, it is recommended not to use STENDO in case of:

  • Pregnancy
  • Recent surgery
  • Severe aortic insufficiency
  • Aortic aneurysm that requires surgery.
  • History of phlebitis or suspected deep vein thrombosis.

What is the treatment with STENDO?

STENDO consists of several compartments that inflate and deflate at different pressures regulated by the cardiac cycle and guided by the electrocardiogram, allowing the propagation of a progressive and harmonious counterpulsation wave that improves coronary, cerebral, renal and general blood flow.

The duration of the treatment sessions depends on the medical process and its characteristics. It usually lasts between 30 and 50 minutes, between 2 and 5 weekly sessions, between 2 and 7 weeks.

In general, the treatment of angina pectoris or heart failure is 5 weekly sessions of 50 minutes for 7 consecutive weeks. In contrast, optimal sports recovery is achieved with 2-3 sessions of 50 minutes in a single week.

Treatment with STENDO is painless and no significant adverse reactions have been observed. At Clínica Basilea we have the first equipment in Spain for synchronized external counterpulsation.
