Urinary incontinence and vaginal rejuvenation

Childbirth and menopause can alter the genitalia and pelvic floor producing urinary incontinence, dryness, dissatisfaction in sexual relations, atrophy and other changes. All of these affect the patient’s quality of life and sexuality.

There are new laser treatment modalities and hyaluronic acid applications that offer an excellent response to these pathologies. They are performed on an outpatient basis without incisions or surgery. Only topical or local anesthesia is used.

The heat of the laser promotes the remodeling of collagen in the vaginal mucosa reinforcing the walls of the vaginal canal. This increases trophism, tonicity, elasticity and tightness.

Urinary incontinence improves radically after two laser sessions, after urodynamic study. Reminder sessions may be required. It is possible to return immediately to daily activity and, after a few days, it is possible to have sexual intercourse.

The application of hyaluronic acid in the intimate areas restores the volume of skin and mucous membranes, filling the labia majora and protecting the vagina and urethra again. It is an excellent treatment for painful intercourse and vulvar lichen. It can be performed one session per year as the effect is long lasting.

These new therapies also offer other possibilities such as the reduction of vulvar lips too large or of different sizes, perineoplasty, hymen reconstruction and treatment of postpartum scars.

They can be applied in collaboration with physiotherapy, gynecological osteopathy, lubrication and hormone therapy, and can reduce invasive surgical treatments by a high percentage.

Gynecologic laser therapy also includes the treatment of condylomas (genital warts) or precancerous lesions of the female genital tract.
