Observe for skin care

The origins of the Victor López-Barrantes Clinic, in Velázquez 124, date back to 1950, 60 years ago. Ours is a clinic that accumulates the unique experience of 3 generations.

Frequent treatments and techniques

Although we have as a rule to give the patient a comprehensive dermatological care, the most common diseases we see are acne, eczema, alopecia, skin infections, psoriasis, moles, lesions …. We also offer treatments for aging and skin deterioration such as blemishes, expression wrinkles, folds, crow’s feet, excessive sweating… To combat them we use whatever suits the person, from botulinum toxin, fillers, or peeling, to 3 types of laser devices, healing room, cryosurgery, or infiltrations.

We also work on the early diagnosis of skin cancer using state-of-the-art techniques (digital dermoscopy) to better differentiate “worrisome” skin blemishes.

The treatments we use, including the most recent technological advances, are proven methods; we prefer to use the penultimate rather than the latest. But they must be well proven and validated. They are non-aggressive techniques applied in consultation.

Public vs. private healthcare

Public and private medicine should only compete on quality of care. For me, having been a dermatologist in the service of the Hospital Niño Jesús, both should be synergistic and complementary, like communicating vessels. Private medicine should provide a different level of care. It is worth remembering that Aesthetic and Cosmetic Dermatology is not treated in the public sector.

Today’s patient is much more informed and looks to the physician to respond to his or her demands to the extent that the state of science and research allows.

Private dermatology is supposed to have greater ease of access, faster assistance, more personal treatment, greater comfort, greater proximity, greater choice and greater availability. This is what I call the family dermatologist.

A doctor’s word

Whether it is summer or not, skin care is necessary. You should never neglect hygiene, moisturizing and even less sun protection.

A key piece of advice is to observe your skin carefully and consult a dermatologist if you have any doubts about rashes or skin lesions. The dermatologist is the specialist of the skin, its pathological alterations, its chronological deterioration, physiological alterations, the prevention of its diseases, and its aesthetic, cosmetic and hygienic care.

It is important to keep in mind that, when we mistreat it, the skin does not forget and gets sick. That’s why we should never forget to take care of it.
