FUE technique: ends alopecia

The Follicular Unit Extraction technique is the most effective and long-lasting treatment to end alopecia in both men and women. Dr. Seiadatan, expert in Hair Surgery, talks about this technique and its effectiveness.

What is the FUE technique?

The FUE technique consists of the individual extraction of follicular units, with the use of a scalpel called a “punch”. The smallest and least used in the market is 0.75 mm in diameter, “punch” used by the doctor, allowing small incisions to be made. The follicular units, which may contain 1-2-3 or more hairs, depending on the patient, are extracted with forceps.

All the follicular units extracted are kept in a cold solution so that they do not deteriorate and are classified at the time depending on the hairs they contain. When all the necessary follicular units have been extracted, they are implanted using an instrument called an implanter. This instrument is the one that allows controlling the position, direction and angulation when placing the follicles, ensuring that the result is much more natural.

When the FUE technique is applied

The FUE technique is used to perform hair transplants in patients who want to improve the aesthetics of their hair:

  • Frontal line repair
  • Reduction of receding hairline
  • Density contribution in depopulated areas or areas with little density
  • Concealment of scars on the scalp due to trauma or surgery, among others.

This treatment can also be applied to perform total or partial repairs or small touch-ups on eyebrows, beard, mustache, sideburns or other smaller areas. This technique can also be used to restore the well known “Mount of Venus”, i.e. pubic hair.

Advantages of the FUE technique

The FUE technique has many advantages over other hair transplant techniques. Among these we find:

  • It does not leave linear scars.
  • It does not require stitches.
  • It does not hurt and discomfort is usually relieved with mild painkillers.
  • The postoperative period requires antibiotic medication to prevent infection and washing of the donor and recipient areas in a specific but simple way.

The results are completely natural and are appreciated progressively, the definitive result being visible around the eighth month. Patients are always advised to use a conservative design, which guarantees an optimal result without modifying the patient’s face.
