Solutions for patients with tooth loss

There is a large group of people who, over time, have worn full dentures and their various defects, such as difficult stabilization, difficulty in chewing certain foods or even difficulty in speaking or blowing make them tired of wearing them.

For these people who are tired of wearing full dentures and even for people who have lost all their teeth and must rehabilitate them, different solutions have been created that allow them to enjoy a fixed or semi-fixed denture again, whether or not there is much bone remaining.

Options for tooth loss

There are different options for treating tooth loss, although two will be highlighted:

  • Fixed prosthesis on four implants (all on 4): in this technique, four implants are placed, two in the anterior area and two in the posterior area. In turn, a fixed prosthesis is placed the same day. This procedure allows you to return to fixed teeth from the very first moment thanks to the use of a less aggressive surgery. At the same time, soft foods can be eaten from the beginning, an advantage over other treatments.
  • Overdentures: this is a prosthesis that offers a very good solution in cases where there is not much bone. This technique is based on the placement of two or four implants and an anchored prosthesis, which can be removed for cleaning.

In the event that the placement of implants is not possible due to a lack of bone, it can be regenerated with techniques that do not require autotransplants, but use synthetic bone, a fact that minimizes surgery, since in these cases hospitalization is not necessary.

Metal-free implantology

Other options that have been highlighted in recent times are treatments designed to minimize allergies, intolerances, sensitivities or staining. In other words, treatments that require the use and/or placement of metals in the mouth.

For some time now, at Drs. Miravé Dental Center we have not been using amalgams, i.e. silver implants, caps or bridges. In fact, whenever possible, zirconium or ceramic is used, and in recent times we have opted for the use of Zirconia implants, which allow us to rehabilitate missing teeth without the need to use metal implants and/or lower the adjacent teeth to make a bridge.

Another advantage of metal-free implants is that they are less hard and more esthetic, since they are white and do not have metallic stripes or opaque transparencies. At the same time, it should be mentioned as an advantage that it consists of a single surgical phase and with biocompatibility.
