Immediate loading implants: speed and comfort

What are dental implants?

They are titanium elements that are placed in the mandible and / or maxilla, which aims to replace the roots of missing teeth. The dental implants will end up holding a dental prosthesis.

What does dental implant treatment consist of?

This treatment is based on two parts. In the first, the maxillofacial surgeon installs, through a small intervention, the titanium fixation inside the bone. Once the intervention is completed, the biological process known as osseointegration begins. This process consists of a direct functional and structural union between the dental implant and the surrounding bone.

What are immediate load implants?

This innovative procedure allows restoring the function and esthetics of the patient in just one session, placing the dental implants at the same time as the dental prosthesis.

In the intervention, first the teeth are extracted and then the remaining bone is remodeled where the dental implants will be installed. It is important to achieve a uniform bone platform. Next, the dental implants are placed in the jaw and maxillary bone, which will serve as anchorage for the dental prosthesis.

In the last place, the dental prosthesis will be fixed on the implants. Previously, this prosthesis will have been planned by the laboratory technician and the dentist, so it will only require minimal adjustments.

In general, the immediate loading of implants is performed under intravenous sedation, so the patient feels relaxed and comfortable. The patient will spend approximately three months with this provisional prosthesis, and then the definitive prosthesis will be installed.

Which patients can undergo this treatment?

Not everyone can undergo this procedure. To obtain positive results the patient must meet the following conditions:

  • Be healthy, without uncontrolled general diseases.
  • The patient must be cooperative, be aware of the technique and follow good oral hygiene habits.
  • Sufficient bone quality and the maxillary bone with sufficient bone volume in all three dimensions of space.
  • No bone disease or parafunctional habits (bruxism).

It is also essential to have an implant with an adequate morphology and surface. The technique must be applied by an expert maxillofacial surgeon to achieve a positive result with minimum tissue damage.

What are its main advantages?

The greatest advantage is that the patient is able to recover aesthetics and functionality in a few hours, being able to recover his normal activity in a short time. This is achieved by avoiding being without teeth at any time, avoiding possible problems of image or self-esteem.
