Summer, moments for reflection

Summer is coming and possible vacations are on the horizon. According to Dr. Lopez Rodriguez, specialist in Psychiatry, active people or people with stressful jobs have certain difficulties in disconnecting from their work activity.
The purpose of vacations is to give our body and mind a rest. A change of rhythm, of activity and, if possible, of scenery, will help us to have time and space to do those things we do not do on a daily basis.

The two stages of the vacation

Another recommendation is that the vacations have two stages: the first would be focused on physical recovery, acquiring a restful sleep, adequate food and physical exercise.
The second phase is intended for a more playful sequence: let’s leave aside the clock, the schedules of the rest of the year, cell phones, mail and the self-imposed pressures of “we must” or “we have to”. The idea of this second part is to dedicate time to ourselves and practice physical and mental peace.

The importance of one’s own space and time

Another aspect to keep in mind is respecting our own space and time. In our daily lives we dedicate ourselves to our work, our children, partner or family, but what about ourselves? Vacations can be the right time to reflect and redirect personal issues.

We are less and less alone with ourselves, connected to cell phones and computers and we leave aside those personal moments to think, to listen to music, to walk alone, to enjoy the silence and ourselves. We are entering an era where seclusion and solitude are being relegated. Why are more anxiety disorders being diagnosed today? Perhaps factors such as those mentioned above would be good antidotes.
Is it on vacation that we “face” peace and quiet to get our lives back on track? Let’s hope so.
