Experience in dentistry is one of the key aspects that patients value most when deciding where to go and in whose hands. In addition to having extensive training, it is necessary that the specialist also has a long professional career that supports his activity, as is the case of Dr. Travieso Ferrando. The doctor, a specialist in Odontology and Stomatology, joined the Stomatology Service of the Hospital Clínico Provincial de Barcelona while he was studying the third year of Medicine and at the age of 20 he began his practice on patients.
It did not take him long to open his first private clinic together with other colleagues from the Clinical Service, thus beginning his professional career at the age of 24. That same year, after obtaining his degree in Medicine and Surgery, he began his specialty in Stomatology, concluding his studies in 1982. At that time, he was also part of the medical team of the family Dental Clinic in Rambla de Cataluña.
Over the years, Dr. Travieso Ferrando’s training was completed with training stays in different American universities, among them:
- Department of Periodontics and Department of Prosthodontics at Fairleigh Dickinson University New Jersey (3 months).
- Department of Prosthodontics Tufts University Boston (2 months).
- Department of Endodontics Boston University (7 days). – Department of Periodontics University of Puerto Rico (4 months).
- ATM Course Dr.Tanaka San Diego (15 days).
- Perio-Prothesis Course University of Southern California Los Angeles (1 month).
It is difficult for the patient to be involved in his treatment if the professional who attends him is not committed to his work.
But Dr. Travieso’s professional growth did not stop after obtaining his degrees, the knowledge and practice acquired at Hospital Clínico, in his own clinic and in the clinics of colleagues related to the Clinic Service, but he continued training in the different specialties of Dentistry to be able to treat complex and complete rehabilitations of the mouth in the best way possible.
As he himself says: “Orthodontics in Spain was not yet differentiated and there were no specialized studies. I was concerned about getting letters of recommendation to be able to carry out stays in various universities in the USA”. Thus it was that in 1984, after his stay in the USA, he was offered the organization and direction of the Stomatology Service of the Hospital de Santa Tecla y San Pablo de Tarragona.
Soon after, he opened a Dental Specialties Service, one of the first Dental Specialties centers in Catalonia, which currently has 16 collaborators trained in different specialties and whose main objective is to achieve the best type of rehabilitations, each one incorporating the practice and knowledge of their specialty.
In recent years, the doctor has devoted much of his work to prosthetics and oral rehabilitations, attending various courses, lectures, meetings, care organizations and clinical sessions. Dr. Travieso radiates passion for his profession, so much so that his daughter Andrea Travieso has become the fourth generation of dentists in the family to continue at the helm of the two clinics.
