Bone reconstruction and dental implants in the posterior part of the mandible?

The following is the case of a patient who underwent bone reconstruction and subsequent placement of dental implants in the posterior mandible.

In this case, the importance of the molars during the chewing process can be shown. In the case of absence, in the long term, complications occur, and can even lead to adjacent tooth loss, esthetic defects in the face and mouth, chronic pain in the jaw…

How was the diagnosis made?

In this case, the patient had missing teeth in both posterior parts of the jaw for several years. This time without treatment consolidated a profound loss of bone mass, both in height and width.

How was she treated?

In order to place the dental implants to replace the missing teeth, it is necessary to reconstruct the bony area. To do this, a bone graft from the patient’s chin was used.

The extracted bone mass was placed in the damaged area with the “Box Technique”, which uses local anesthesia.

Once the necessary time had passed for the graft to heal, three implants were placed in the jaw, each with its corresponding intermediate abutment.

After the necessary tests were carried out, the definitive prosthesis was placed, by means of which the patient’s mouth was restored to full functionality.
