When is it time to make a visit to the orthodontist?

There are the following symptoms that cannot be overlooked because of their importance when visiting an orthodontic office. Some of them are: anterior crossbites, posterior crossbites… Increased dental protrusion, outward facing teeth. Protruding jaw outward, premature loss of a baby tooth, difficulty in biting or chewing, mouth breathing, noises in the articulation, pronunciation problems, cheek bites, facial alterations, teeth outward, open bites, crossbites, spaces between teeth, crowding, grinding or clenching of teeth among others.

The best prevention is an early visit

Depending on the problem, treatment can be started earlier or later. The same pathology has a solution at different ages. The best solution is to go to the orthodontist for regular check-ups and the moment the slightest positional problem is diagnosed, the professional will recommend the most appropriate treatment. The Spanish Society of Orthodontics recommends the first visit at around 6 or 7 years of age, the age at which the first permanent molar appears.

An early visit can save skeletal problems

On numerous occasions, patients visit the orthodontist after dental replacement and in many of these cases skeletal problems are detected that are complicated to treat and end up with surgery. After performing the orthodontic study, the specialist will inform the patient about the best date for treatment, the type of malocclusion and the appliances to be used.

Different types of studies for patients

There are patients who undergo the Orthodontic Study and it is observed that it is not the exact moment to begin treatment. These patients go to the Periodic Check-Up Program, until the professional considers that it is the best time to start treatment. Through this program of revisions, the Dental Health Program will be managed, in which professional orthodontists will be in charge of the care and control of the mouth, and in this way avoid and correct any unforeseen event that appears before the start of treatment.
