When talking about breast augmentation, doubts arise about the procedure, in order to obtain the most natural and long-lasting results. Cosmetic surgery specialists try to answer the most frequently asked questions.
But breast augmentation with body fat is not a real augmentation, although it seems an ideal alternative to prostheses. It is, rather, a refinement of the breast.
Injection of body fat into the breasts
Although body fat does not serve to increase bra sizes, it is possible to provide turgor and firming, which can lead to a slight augmentation.
The transferred fat, once it has taken hold, will behave like normal fatty tissue, undergoing the same variations in volume with weight loss or gain by the patient.
Breast augmentation with implants
Breast implants do provide a real volume, which does not vary with changes in weight and remains stable over time. It is a real increase in volume or size, which must be well adjusted to the patient’s measurements (chest, breast base, height, weight, etc).
There are many cases in which both procedures are performed at the same time. It is highly recommended, especially in secondary cases to:
- Avoid capsular contracture
- Better reshape the upper pole of the breast.
- Remodel the intermammary area in reconstructions after lumpectomies.
Breast reconstruction after a tumor
In breast reconstruction with fat, there are doubts as to the possibility of creating new tumor cells in the fat cells that are injected. However, this possibility has not been scientifically proven.
Stem cells from fat, which have the capacity to generate the tissue where they have been transferred, could have a remote possibility of regenerating tumor cells from the same excision as the tumor removed. However, these are only assumptions.
Care after breast augmentation
In the case of silicone gel implants, the postoperative recovery takes two weeks. It is painful for the first 4-5 days, but then the feeling of tightness and tightness in the breast and sternal area improves.
After 14 days the stitches are removed and the patient is advised to perform manual lymphatic drainage to reduce edema and prevent capsular contracture. Sports are recommended from the first postoperative month.
In the case of fat transfer, the postoperative period is much more benign, with a recovery period of about 7-8 days, little swelling and some small skin effusions.
