Oftalvist guarantees a safe space for its patients

The Oftalvist ophthalmology group has been testing its staff to ensure the safety of its employees and the patients who come to its more than 30 clinics. Since the end of April, tests have been carried out on the group’s nearly 300 employees.

Oftalvist will also carry out these tests on patients who are to undergo surgical treatment “in order to offer them greater safety, as well as the healthcare personnel involved, all under a strict protocol,” says Pedro Tañá, Oftalvist’s medical director. They have also implemented a strict protocol of preventive measures to avoid the risk of infection as much as possible.

The ophthalmology group has maintained activity in its clinics to attend to urgent cases in 11 Spanish provinces. In addition, it has offered free telemedicine assistance to its patients to avoid travel.

With the arrival of de-escalation, the group is preparing to gradually resume activity, starting with non-delayable cases.

To this end, they have designed an action plan that is part of the protocol of the HLA Hospital Group, of which Oftalvist is a member, aimed at avoiding the risk of COVID-19 infection in all its healthcare centers as much as possible.

As Pedro Tañá explained, “the priority, now more than ever, is to guarantee maximum safety for patients, and our efforts are aimed at offering a safe environment in all our clinics”.

Preventive measures

The Oftalvist Group has drawn up a prevention protocol in line with the recommendations of the health authorities with a view to the gradual recovery of healthcare activity. In this regard, the clinic staff is equipped with all the personal protective equipment, which includes:

  • FFP2 masks
  • Gloves
  • Protective screens (at reception desks and on diagnostic equipment for ophthalmological examinations)
  • Masks (for patients)
  • Hydroalcoholic gel (for patients).

“We have also established a rigorous protocol for evaluating the patient’s general health by means of a questionnaire and temperature measurement upon entering our healthcare centers,” Dr. Tañá points out.

Another crucial aspect is that of cleanliness, which is rigorously carried out in the common areas of greatest affluence, where social distancing measures are respected at all times. This cleanliness is completed with thorough disinfection of the offices after each consultation.

The surfaces in contact with patients are also disinfected after each use.

All these protocols, implemented in accordance with the indications of the health authorities, allow a resumption of the ordinary activity with all the necessary safety guarantees for patients and staff of the center.
