Mock-up system: a simulation of a new smile

To change the appearance of a smile, different treatments are proposed taking into account the individual characteristics of each patient, the color of their teeth, the texture, the size, the position, etc.

Dental specialists agree that there are times when the explanation of the treatment may be too technical for the patient and he/she may not understand it. In order for them to accept the treatment we propose, they must understand what it is about and be sure that we are going to perform what they really want.

For this reason there is the MockUp, which allows us to visualize an anticipated result of the patient’s new smile. This technique is completely painless, requires a relatively short time visit and it is not necessary to touch or grind the patient’s original teeth.

Instead, it provides excellent dentist-patient communication, and allows the patient to understand the treatment we are proposing, showing their results in advance.

How is it done?

Normally the procedure to follow is:

  1. Measurements are taken of the patient’s mouth with a mold.
  2. In the laboratory a simulation is made with wax, modifying the shape, size, texture and position of the teeth.
  3. A key is made with silicone of the new appearance of the smile and it is placed in the mouth, placing a resin material.

With these three steps a dynamic simulacrum of the patient’s new smile is achieved, which differs from photographic montages and digital simulations, which are very useful but static.

In this case, the patient sees in his mouth the change we are proposing, and it is observed when speaking, smiling, gesturing… In this way the patient can familiarize himself with them and even make his own contributions so that the teeth that will be placed later will be the ones he wants.

In addition, the Mock-Up can be easily removed after the visit (since it is not cemented and is held by retention) or if the patient prefers, he can take it with him and it will be removed in a few days, so that he can show his closest circle the results that will be obtained after the treatment.
