Mastopexy: reshape, firm and lift sagging breasts

Over the years, due to a second pregnancy or simply due to the effect of gravity, breast sagging is very common. It can also be due to excess skin or mammary gland.

In the case that breast sagging is due to pregnancy or breastfeeding the patient must 6 and 10 months to be able to perform a mastopexy. However, when the breast sagging is mainly due to an excess of mammary gland, it is not necessary to wait that long and the surgery will also be accompanied by a breast reduction.

We can perform a mastopexy with breast prosthesis.

In mastopexy surgery can not use prostheses, use them or combine mastopexy with a filling of the patient’s own fat (lipofilling).

It is very important to be advised by your plastic surgeon, since he/she knows better than anyone when the use of prosthesis may or may not be indicated.

How long does the surgery last and how is the recovery?

The surgery usually lasts 2-3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Admission to the hospital lasts between 1 or 2 days (depending on each case).

For the postoperative period, relative rest is recommended during the following week and to avoid exertion during the first month after surgery. In addition, an orthopedic bra should be worn 24 hours a day during the first month after surgery.

It is important to remember that patients who smoke have worse healing than patients who do not smoke. That is why it will be very important to stop smoking at least 1 month before surgery and one month after surgery.

Does mastopexy leave many scars?

The approach can be performed in different ways:

  1. By means of a scar around the areola
  2. By a vertical scar
  3. By means of an inverted T scar, which is the most frequent.

The amount of scar is conditioned to the degree of sagging, that is, the greater the degree of sagging, the greater the amount of scars, therefore, the later the patients consult, the greater the need to lengthen them.
