What is a personality disorder and when does it appear?

First of all I would like to give you a first warning, I suggest that you ask yourself what is the real reason that leads you to seek information about this disorder, is it because of you? because of someone else?… to know yourself keep in mind that looking in diagnostic manuals, technical articles, and other information you will not find an answer to what is happening to you. The personality disorder would be a rooted, rigid, disproportionate and inadequate pattern of ways of thinking, feeling, behaving and relating according to a system of values that characterize the lifestyle of the subject and the way of adapting to the vicissitudes. In personality disorder the characteristics are: lack of awareness of illness, tendency to act out, behavior, repetition compulsion and lack of emotional restraint. This disorder is diagnosed from adolescence onwards.

What types of personality disorders exist and which are the most frequent?

Ten types of personality disorders have been defined. The most frequent ones are those that reach the point of having an awareness of illness and make demands such as borderline disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, dependence disorder and avoidance disorder.

What does the treatment consist of?

There are no miracle cures. It is true that in personality disorder it is difficult to guarantee an absolute cure, although it has been done for a long time, since Otto Kernberg, Freud, and there is a long tradition of rigorous practices in psychotherapy that give positive results. Psychotherapy involves weekly attendance at treatment sessions and requires effort, perseverance and commitment on the part of the patient.
