Breast surgery is our workhorse

The Ana Torres Institute, located in the Teknon Clinic and in the Center of Barcelona, works in all areas of the specialty of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. We are an eminently female team, and we consider breast surgery as our daily workhorse. We are concerned about women’s health, and therefore we offer the most advanced techniques, our experience and sensitivity to solve their problems.

At the Ana Torres Institute we are concerned about women and breast surgery, which within plastic surgery includes breast reconstruction and breast reshaping surgery and breast augmentation.

Our experience allows us to understand the structures that make up the breast and how they behave over time. The skin, breast glandular tissue and fatty tissue will change over the years, and that is something that must be explained, especially to young patients, because what must be achieved is a lasting long-term result. Psychology also plays a very important role when evaluating a patient who is a candidate for breast surgery. It is necessary to understand the needs and desires of women, but also their expectations, before surgery.

The plastic surgeon must be honest when anticipating a result and transfer all his knowledge to the patient, so that there is no lack of information, which will be crucial in the patient’s decision making.

What types of breast surgery are there?

Within breast surgery we have, mostly, the following subspecialties: breast reconstruction, breast remodeling surgery and breast augmentation surgery.

  • Within breast reconstruction we have incorporated the latest advances in reconstruction with autologous tissue and microsurgery and reconstruction with prostheses, in order to help those women who require partial or total breast reconstruction. The important thing is that the patient is comfortable with her body, and for this we have to achieve maximum symmetry and accompany the patient throughout the process until the nipple and areola are reconstructed.
  • Breast reshaping surgery includes breast reduction and mastopexy. Breast reduction would be for those women who have too much weight in their breasts, and mastopexy for those cases that only present breast ptosis and require a breast lift. The latest techniques allow us to minimize scars and obtain lasting results.
  • Breast augmentation. Women with atrophy of the breast tissue, small breasts (hypomastia), agenesis of the breast (amastia), deformities such as tuberous breasts, and asymmetries improve significantly with the placement of prostheses, and it is necessary to use, in most cases, other additional techniques to reshape the breast.
  • The lipotransfer of the patient’s own adipose tissue grafts allows us to obtain a breast augmentation without prosthesis, and in other cases it is used as a complement to other techniques of breast reconstruction and remodeling. For the lipotransfer we have the latest technology: the Bodyjet Evo of Humanmed, which allows us to perform the lipotransfer at low pressure without damaging the fat cells. This device is only available in two clinics in Spain, being the Ana Torres Institute one of them.

In the last three years we have seen an increase in the demand of women who, from 45-50 years of age, wish to have their prostheses explanted and replaced by their own adipose tissue (fat) grafts, which allow us, together with other breast remodeling techniques, to obtain excellent results.

The breast is a fundamental part of a woman’s body, so treating its defects or problems is important for women to gain self-esteem, attractiveness and security in their personal and work relationships.
