Chest reduction operation characteristics

Patients who resort to breast reduction surgery are those who have an excessive breast volume, either because their development has continued like this, or because after breastfeeding the volume has not been reduced or because they are overweight. All these patients seek with breast reduction to put an end to the discomfort caused by the volume of their breasts: back pain, neck pain, inability to practice physical exercise and even psychological disorders and communication level.

Duration of breast reduction surgery

Breast reduction is an intervention that is always performed under general anesthesia and usually lasts between two and a half hours and three hours (depending on the type of breast to be operated). From the time the patient is admitted until she is discharged, it usually takes 24 hours.

Postoperative period of breast reduction surgery

The postoperative period is not painful, nor is a bandage required, we only put dressings on the scars and an appropriate bra for the intervention.

It requires treatment with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and analgesics (although the vast majority of patients do not get to take them, since they do not show pain). However, the postoperative period can be a little uncomfortable because the patient feels limited in her movements (despite not wearing a bandage).

If the patient performs office work or work that does not require physical exercise, she can return to work after 3-4 days.

Aspects to take into account about breast reduction surgery

As with all this type of surgery, the patient must take into account the result of the scars that, although they can be concealed, are for life.

You should also consider that the breast may undergo changes after the intervention, for example, if you increase the size of your breasts or if you become pregnant. In the latter case, you may not be able to breastfeed because they have cut a multitude of canaliculi that are those that carry milk to the nipple.
