How are accident scars treated?

What does scarring consist of?

After a trauma or a burn, our skin must regenerate. To do this, the cells must take charge of repairing the damaged tissue. This is when what is known as the scab is produced and, subsequently, a tissue is formed that is distinct from the rest, known as the scar.

Are there different types of scars?

Scars can be

  • Normal.
  • Atrophic: skin that is thinner than the surrounding skin.
  • Hypertrophic: bulging scars.
  • Keloid: bulging and go beyond the limits of the initial wound.

They can also be more or less reddish depending on how vascularized it is, depending on the size, depth and location of the wound, as well as the skin characteristics of each person.

How are accident scars treated?

Scars caused by accidents can cause an important aesthetic alteration. There may be pain and discomfort if the scar has thickened, forming a keloid.

They can also cause problems in the movement or functionality of the affected part.

  • Treatment to reduce the red/purple color: Cynergy vascular laser or intense pulsed light (IPL).
  • Treatment to reduce the thickness: corticosteroid infiltrations.
  • Surgical excision.
  • Dermabrasion.
  • Surgery to remove extra scar tissue.
