Female hair loss

What causes hair loss in women?

Female alopecia is an aesthetic problem that often hides a health problem. Sometimes we have women with androgenetic alopecia in which there is an associated hormonal problem. They may even have versutism, excess body hair, acne, and even metabolic syndrome with a tendency to diabetes and other disorders. Of course there is always a genetic background, mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, which helps us in this diagnosis. Other times what we will find is a woman with frontal fibrosing alopecia, also called diadem alopecia, in which the hair recedes, leaving an increasingly broad forehead with loss of eyebrows and sometimes with skin lesions. It is possible that what is happening is that you have alopecia areata, that is, plaques with tiny hairs that fall out without knowing why, leaving areas of increasingly striking bald patches.

Disease can also be another reason for alopecia. Systemic disease such as lupus erythematosus, in which the alopecia plaque will be scarring and irreversible, and in which the control of the basic disease is fundamental. And why not, there are also more severe, scarring alopecias, such as folliculitis decalvans, in which loose tufts of hair remain in the middle of bald patches with pustules, inflammation and scabs. We could even consider psychology, emotional disorder, as a cause of alopecia, like those young women who pull out their hair because they have that compulsion, that need, that their organism, that their anxiety, forces them to do it.
