When should dental implants be used?

Dental implants are pieces of pure titanium that are surgically placed in the jawbone, just below the gum. Dental implants are placed in the place where the original dental roots should be. Thanks to them we get a completely natural look.

At SOL Dental Clinic, we recommend the implantology technique as a definitive solution to recover one or more lost teeth, as they do not have to be attached to another tooth, like bridges. Thus, to place these implants there is no need to perform any type of grinding on the adjacent teeth. In addition to improving our oral health, they give us back a beautiful and functional smile.

What do dental implants provide that prostheses do not?

  • Natural results. One of the main advantages of dental implants is that, once they are integrated into the jawbone, they are completely unnoticed.
  • They last longer. Dental implants are less prone to wear and tear than other treatments such as dentures. Once the tooth is replaced from the root, it can be kept in good condition for a longer period of time. Thus, if proper dental care is maintained, implants can last a lifetime.
  • They adapt easily. Thanks to the osseointegration process, dental implants integrate quickly into the bone.
  • They do not alter the quality of life. Dental implants do not change the health of other teeth. For example, bridges need the adjacent teeth to support the prosthesis.

What materials are implants made of?

The implants we use in SOL Clinic are made of titanium. A light, easily moldable and extremely hard material with great physical properties such as high resistance to oxidation and corrosion.

This material allows a success rate of 80% and is therefore the most widely used in implantology.

Are there differences with respect to a normal tooth in its appearance?

One of the advantages of dental implants is the natural result they offer. Once they are integrated into the maxillary bone, they go completely unnoticed.

How long do implants last and is any special maintenance necessary?

Normally, dental implants last between fifteen and 25 years. However, these numbers can vary depending on a number of factors. The most important factor for the expected life of a dental implant is hygiene. If dental cleaning is deficient, bacteria will accumulate on the surface of the implant and cause inflammation of the mucous membrane surrounding the implant.

Other reasons that can affect the durability of an implant are health factors, such as diabetes, cancer, or tobacco consumption, factors that greatly increase the probability of failure of a dental implant.
