Transillumination and intense pulsed light to treat spider veins

Spider veins are not only an aesthetic problem, but they are a medical-aesthetic problem and, as such, they must be oriented and treated as we do at the Vein Disease Center of Barcelona.

Sometimes spider veins are accompanied by pain and heaviness in the legs, since, in themselves, they are nothing more than the manifestation of superficial venous insufficiency at the subdermal level.

Spider veins are a consequence of the fact that, for some reason (genetic, hormonal, habits, etc.), there is a failure in some reticular veins and, instead of draining the blood from the skin, it accumulates in the skin, giving rise to the appearance of spider veins.

Transillumination: cold light and polarized light to see and correct vascular defects.

Using transillumination, which is a cold light source, we can see the reticular veins that fail and cause spider veins. By treating both with microsclerosis with or without foam we can correct the vascular defect and eliminate the spider veins.

In small spider veins, sometimes polarized light should be used, which highlights the red color of hemoglobin and makes the small capillaries more visible, making the treatment easier and more effective.

All techniques performed with transillumination and polarized light are ambulatory, well tolerated and allow us to improve the desired aesthetic results and avoid recurrences.
