Immediate loading implants: what they are and when they are recommended

Immediate load implants are all those implant placement procedures that do not involve waiting time for the placement of a prosthesis/tooth on top of them. As it is known, the implant is placed first and there is a waiting time that, in these cases, is not performed. This procedure is usually applied in anterior teeth, for esthetics.

Difference between immediately loaded implants and conventional implants

Immediate load implants differ from conventional implants in that they require a very important initial anchorage in the bone. In the same procedure the intermediate piece is placed, not a healing cap, and a provisional crown, like the definitive tooth, but without occlusal load, that is, without being used for chewing.

When to opt for each type of implant

Whenever possible, the classic procedure, which is more than proven by experts in dentistry and stomatology, is more reliable.

The esthetic problem of a gap is solved with adhesive bridges to the adjacent teeth. We should reserve these procedures for cases of anterior teeth, in patients who do not have a habit of clenching their teeth.

Possibility of injury or bone rejection with immediate load implants

Single immediate load implants, in extractions, need synthetic bone, and more time for maturation, even if they have a temporary one. The cases of multiple implants require the patient to be kept on a soft diet for months, have more possibilities of bone loss in the superficial zone, and need more control visits to the dentist during that period.

Although all, absolutely all implants lose bone over time, immediate implants have a longer stabilization period, and need more monitoring during the first year.
