Dental esthetics. More than just whitening

There is no doubt that we are in an era of humanity in which the cult of image and aesthetics is extremely important. This explains the great boom in cosmetic products, beauty treatments, aesthetic treatments, and of course the medical specialties related to aesthetics: plastic surgery, maxillo-facial surgery, aesthetic surgery as a compendium of various specialties, etc. Odontostomatology has not been oblivious to this phenomenon and today the demand for aesthetics in our offices is increasing. But what is dental esthetics: “white” fillings, whitening of teeth?

How is it possible that all those actresses and actors, models, television presenters, etc. have such beautiful smiles and such white teeth?

We are asked this question every day by the people who visit our practice, and the answer is always the same:

Some of those people are lucky enough to have a lovely, beautiful smile, and the others rely on good dentists who know how to design a beautiful smile.

The question that follows is inevitable:

Design a new smile?

Our answer:

This is what our aesthetic team devotes most of its time and effort to.

Dental Aesthetics is a very broad discipline within the world of Dentistry, which encompasses a large number of treatments, sometimes even by different specialists, and which must be directed and coordinated by professionals who know and master these techniques to perfection. Nowadays we can “design a smile” and make many people’s dream come true: “I would like to have a mouth like…”.

Smiling is the most frequent facial gesture in mankind and is more frequent in women than in men. A large number of the population considers it essential to have a beautiful smile in order to achieve social success. However, another large number are not happy with their current smile and are willing to change it. How many times have we seen a beautiful face hiding a smile, with a forced lip gesture to hide unsightly teeth? How many times have we seen a hand hiding an unsatisfied smile?

In our smile is represented our age, our sex, our sensitivity, even our character traits. By modifying our smile, we can even influence our external image and the way other people perceive us. In our center, which I have the honor of directing, we are very sensitive to the aesthetic desires of our patients and we combine the efforts of specialists in Orthodontics, Oral Surgery, Prosthodontics, Implantology and Dental Aesthetics itself, to achieve not only an unbeatable aesthetic result in routine treatments, but also to design new, aesthetic smiles with the requirements and conditions that the patient asks of us. Nowadays, thanks to innovative techniques and materials such as injected porcelain sheets with thicknesses of less than 0.5 mm, bonding techniques with composites with direct adhesion to dentin, whitening agents, metal-free crowns and bridges, etc., together with a deep knowledge of the latest techniques and materials. Together with a deep knowledge of the golden rules of dental esthetics, proportions, dental anatomy, and how all this influences the appearance of the smile, we can create “TV smiles” as our patients say. And all of this with minimally invasive techniques that avoid cutting teeth to fix them.
