Although we know that those foods that are very colorful tend to stain teeth more, the ability to do so is quite limited. It is clear that herbal teas, coffee and tobacco are the habits that most disturb the color of the teeth and, therefore, are those that should be avoided if you want to have white teeth.
The most effective way to have white teeth is to have a perfect oral hygiene. Therefore, after every meal, it is necessary to brush with a toothbrush and toothpaste according to the Bass technique. This technique consists of brushing with the bristles of the toothbrush at 45 degrees towards the apex of the tooth, at the bottom of the groove, producing a vibration in the direction of a horizontal movement.
In addition, at least once a day, the interdental spaces should be cleaned with dental floss or interdental brushes.
Basically, there are two tooth whitening techniques:
- Ambulatory: consists of making splints of perfectly reproduced teeth that serve as a vehicle for depositing the whitening gel. They have to be placed for the hours indicated by the dental specialist. The concentration of whitening gel is much lower than the time needed to achieve the effect.
- Clinic: consists of performing the whitening in the dental chair. This requires the use of a high concentration of whitening gel, together with a high intensity ultraviolet lamp. The combination of both allows us to achieve a whitening effect in a very short time.
