Combined rejuvenation of the under-eye circles: Athena personal technique

We know that the periocular area is one of the areas that must be corrected and kept in mind during a facial rejuvenation treatment. The periorbicular area requires a specific evaluation of both the delicate skin and muscle activity, as well as the fat and skeletal resorption it undergoes over the years. Therefore, it should be analyzed and approached with various treatments always adapted to each case and patient.

Athena technique for rejuvenation of dark circles under the eyes

Athena is the name with which I have baptized my personal rejuvenation technique for the area of dark circles under the eyes, in honor of one of the goddesses of ancient Greece, admired for the beauty that emanated from her eyes.

It is based on a protocol that allows reconstructing the structure of this area by injecting specific hyaluronic acid that corrects dark circles naturally improving the appearance of the skin.

Why do dark circles under the eyes appear?

In youth, the malar fat extends below the orbicularis oculi muscle in its ocular portion to the orbital rim, thanks to the support of the orbitomalar ligament, but with age the ligament is attenuated. Fat is lost and the skin thins, leaving the area anatomically designated as the nasojugal sulcus. Some people present this area slightly sunken, while others present it extremely depressed.

Socially, dark circles under the eyes are usually associated with tiredness, illness or worry, but beyond appearing occasionally due to any of these causes, many times dark circles under the eyes are permanent and their appearance is usually due to genetic causes or the action of age.

The area of dark circles under the eyes requires a broad anatomical knowledge of the area and a good technique. With their correction, the aim is to rejuvenate the look and eliminate the impression of fatigue or sadness that they usually give to the face.

What are the properties and results of the treatment for dark circles under the eyes?

To rejuvenate the area of dark circles, being the skin in the area so delicate, a new hyaluronic acid (HA) gel is used, specifically designed to treat dark circles and correct them in a natural way. It contains a synergistic formula that combines natural ingredients, a subtle balance between a low level of semi-reticulated HA (to reduce the risk of edema), with a perfect viscoelasticity (to maximize the ease of injection and facilitate the correct positioning of the product); in addition to amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins (all related to the synthesis of collagen), which will help us to improve the quality of the skin.

A very good and long-lasting aesthetic result is obtained with a specific product indicated for an area that has been difficult to treat until now, such as dark circles under the eyes. This rejuvenation can be complemented with peeling therapy, laser, botulinum toxin treatment, carboxytherapy and mesotherapy.

Athena was one of the goddesses worshipped in ancient Greece. She was born of Zeus and Metis. She was especially venerated in Athens where the famous Parthenon is dedicated to her. Her beauty was such that she was equal to Hera and Aphrodite, two of the most beautiful goddesses of the classical pantheon.

But if she was admired for anything, it was for her gaze, bright and clear, which emanated from her beautiful eyes and made her a symbol of devotion in the Athenian polis.
