Cellfina

What is Cellfina?

Cellfina is an FDA approved treatment that aims to fight cellulite in the long term. This treatment allows a precise and controlled cutting of the fibrous septa that are the cause of the appearance of “dimples” and the well-known “orange peel” effect.

Why is it performed?

Today there are many treatments against cellulite, such as creams, muds, massages or various surgical techniques. Many of these are used to improve skin tone, reduce fat or stimulate circulation, but they do not act directly on the depressions caused by the traction of the connective fibers in the skin.

With cellulite, the tissue surrounding the subcutaneous fibrous septa becomes inflamed and results in subsequent alterations. The septa become thicker and harder and, when tension is applied to the skin, cause the skin surface to become uneven with the typical “orange peel” appearance. The purpose of Cellfina is to eliminate these alterations and make the skin surface appear smooth again.

What does it consist of?

Cellfina treatment involves the use of a device that, when applied to the area to be treated, performs a suction that produces a lifting of the tissues. Then, a fine needle is inserted to spread the local anesthesia; subsequently, another larger needle is inserted to cut the retracting connecting fibers present between the tissues and the fat. The treatment lasts approximately 45 minutes.

Post-treatment care

After treatment with Cellfina, redness or some bruising may appear during the first five to ten days; it is also recommended to wear an elastic bandage during the first postoperative week. Physical activity, on the other hand, can be resumed after three to four days.
