Nose cancer

What is nasal cancer?

Nose tumors are a disease characterized by the presence and development of cancer cells in the paranasal sinuses or nasal cavity. Nose cancer is not common.

What are the symptoms?

The main symptoms that usually appear and for which a doctor should be consulted are:

  • a feeling of pressure in one area of the face
  • persistent nosebleeds
  • sinus infection
  • presence of a wound inside the nose that does not heal as the days go by
  • frequent pain in the nose area

Since some of the symptoms caused by this type of tumor in the nose coincide with those caused by some benign pathologies, such as sinusitis, in some cases the diagnosis of the tumor is made in advanced stages of its development.

There may be no symptoms at the beginning of the disease and then develop symptoms similar to an infection.

Causes of nasal cancer or why it occurs

Risk factors for nose cancer are:

  • Being male over the age of 40
  • Being exposed to certain chemicals in the workplace.
  • Being infected with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
  • Smoking

Can it be prevented?

Cancer cannot be prevented, although it is important to be aware of possible risk factors. Diagnosis is a key point in prevention. Diagnostic methods are usually biopsy and various imaging tests such as radiology or CT.

What is the treatment?

Treatment is based on surgical excision, associated with radiotherapy, and depending on the degree of involvement of the intervention, reconstruction of the area by microsurgery is required to restore the functionality and appearance of the organ to the patient.
