What is the mommy makeover?

The mommy makeover is a trend that comes from the United States and has been established in Europe in recent years. It mainly consists in recovering in the shortest possible time the figure a woman had before becoming pregnant.

In short, the Mommy Makeover is a quick way to return to the original pre-pregnancy state, eliminating the unwanted aesthetic effects of pregnancy. Thus, this process includes several procedures such as liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast augmentation, reduction or breast lift… Thus, it mainly consists of performing different procedures in a single intervention under local anesthesia -although sometimes it can be performed under general anesthesia- and with a hospitalization period of less than 48 hours.

Why have a mommy makeover?

The mommy makeover can be performed from six months after giving birth onwards, depending on the weight gained by the woman during pregnancy, as well as the quality of her skin.

This treatment is performed because it offers an effective and quick solution to the aesthetic problems generated by pregnancy, but it involves risks of a surgical procedure.

What does the mommy makeover consist of?

The procedure consists of a series of procedures and interventions that are performed after pregnancy. The following are common:

  • Mammoplasty: consists of lifting the sagging breast after pregnancy and breastfeeding in order to recover its usual shape or otherwise increase the breast size to fill the volume of excess skin.
  • Abdominoplasty: its main objective is to get the patient’s abdomen back to its usual firmness by eliminating fat bags, excess skin and tightening the muscles through a small incision in the pubic bone.
  • Liposuction and liposculpture: the excess fat is eliminated with liposuction, and the initial contour and silhouette is recovered with liposculpture.

Preparation for a mommy makeover

After a physical examination, the surgeon will show the body areas that can be modified with a mommy makeover. In turn, the surgeon and his team will need to know all the diseases that the patient may have, as well as allergies to possible medications, previous operations, consumption habits… Therefore, it will also be necessary to perform a preoperative examination that evaluates the blood chemistry or the cardiovascular state, among other things.

The postoperative period for the mommy makeover will vary depending on the combination of procedures performed in the mommy makeover. As a general rule, the patient should be hospitalized for at least 24 hours and will be administered painkillers for the first 72 hours.

A compression garment will be worn for the first four weeks, and postoperative massages may be performed.

The patient will return home with a series of bruises that will make the first few days difficult, although she will gradually feel better.
