Lymphatic Drainage

What is lymphatic drainage?

Lymphatic drainage is a massage that acts on the lymphatic vessels in order to eliminate interstitial and lymphatic fluid.

Why is it performed?

Thanks to its anti-edematous and analgesic action on smooth muscle fibers, lymphatic drainage is particularly indicated to attenuate the so-called orange peel effect of cellulite and to treat post-surgical edema or scars. As for the effect on striated muscle fibers, this drainage is proposed to patients for its relaxing effect, especially in the case of tense or hypertonic muscles. In general, lymphatic drainage increases the response of the immune system, thus improving the response of the defense system in the areas treated with this massage.

Lymphatic drainage consists of a gentle and repetitive massage on the same area.

What does it consist of?

Lymphatic drainage consists of a gentle and repetitive massage, whose rhythm, slower than that of traditional massage, and adherence to the skin without the aid of products favor the activation of the lymph and the elimination of stagnant fluids.

Intense cycles are recommended, initially of 2 to 3 weekly sessions followed by a maintenance treatment (2 to 4 per month); however, these indications may vary depending on the disease and its severity.
