Diet for Children

What is diet for children?

Child nutrition should be an aspect to be worked on by the family as well as by the health authorities and the school. It is important to teach children the importance of good eating habits for their correct physical and intellectual development, and to establish appropriate eating habits.

Why is it done?

The children’s diets are made with the purpose of providing an adequate diet for the infantile age. If the child’s diet is not adequate, the child could develop certain cardiovascular diseases, or suffer from overweight and obesity problems.

What does it consist of?

A diet for children should be balanced, distributing food in five meals a day and following these premises: that it presents fresh and varied products daily (legumes, milk, meat…), that it includes the intake of five fruits and vegetables a day, that whole grains and flours predominate instead of refined ones, not abusing fried food and cooking whenever possible by steaming or grilling, avoiding the so-called “junk food” and precooked food, and controlling the consumption of sugary drinks and sweets.

Preparation for children’s diet and care

For a child to be able to follow a good diet, it is necessary to make them aware of the importance of good eating habits for health, so it is necessary to explain to them the consequences of not having these good habits. Children should also be accustomed to regular physical activity, thus supplementing their diet and helping to avoid problems resulting from poor nutrition.
