Lingual Orthodontics

What is lingual orthodontics?

Lingual orthodontics is an orthodontic technique that allows you to correct any misalignment of the teeth thanks to the application of an invisible device. In fact, it is possible to apply the appliance or metal wires on the back of the tooth, so that the device is practically invisible from the outside. Lingual appliances allow a high degree of predictability of the results, since the realization of the appliance is done through computer simulation of a model of straightened teeth. In other words, the appliance is constructed on the basis of three-dimensional information on the final position of the teeth.

In which cases can lingual orthodontics be used?

Lingual orthodontics can solve any problem of tooth misalignment and malocclusion. Protruding teeth, diastema, crowded or tilted teeth are some of the problems that can be solved with lingual orthodontics. It is a method especially suitable for adult patients, who might be embarrassed to wear braces at their age.

What are the advantages of the lingual appliance?

Compared to traditional braces, lingual braces are less cumbersome: the braces are in fact made with a refined computerized technique that studies the surface of the patient’s teeth. Being a customized method, lingual braces adhere more easily than external braces and there is less risk of disengagement.

What is fixed lingual orthodontics without braces?

There are also orthodontic appliances made with the braceless lingual fixed orthodontic technique. This type of device allows the fixation of metal wires directly on the teeth, without braces, thus adapting perfectly to the anatomy of the dental arch. In addition to being invisible, the device is also imperceptible, does not cause damage to the tongue and avoids phonation problems.
