Benign tumors of the breast

A benign breast tumor consists of the growth of benign cells or tissues in the breast area. They are growths that are not cancerous in nature, composed of breast tissue and help support the breast. The most common are fibroadenomas.

It mainly affects women at the time of puberty and pregnant women.

Symptoms of benign breast tumor

The main symptom is the appearance of a hard breast cyst, which does not hurt to the touch and moves around the breast as it is not attached to the skin.

What are the causes of benign breast tumor?

To date the cause is unknown, although it is believed that it could be due to a hormonal imbalance. It mainly affects women at the time of puberty and pregnant women. However, it occurs less frequently in women who have already gone through menopause.

Can it be prevented?

There are certain habits that can prevent the appearance of a benign breast tumor. These are:

  • Observation and breast self-examination every so often.
  • Healthy diet.
  • Reduce the intake of fats and carbohydrates, since they raise estrogen levels and this stimulates the breast tissue, causing pain.
  • Avoid caffeine and chocolate, which contain methylxanthines, a substance that can overstimulate breast tissue growth.
  • Avoid too tight bras that block blood circulation.

What is the treatment?

The diagnosis is made by ultrasound, and to refine the diagnosis, a biopsy is performed by function. As they are related to hormonal changes in women, they do not always have to be removed, as they usually disappear on their own within a couple of years.
