Skin type studies

What are skin type studies?

Skin type studies allow us to determine whether we have combination, oily, dry, sensitive or normal skin.

Why are they performed?

The passage of time or external factors such as sun exposure, environmental influences, certain diseases, hormonal changes and certain medications or foods can alter the skin. Skin studies are essential for the person to know what type of skin he/she has, since each person requires a personalized treatment according to his/her skin characteristics.

From the clinical study of each patient, information is obtained about the level of hydration, elasticity, thickness and sebaceous secretion of the skin. Thus, the classification includes 4 basic types: dry skin, which has a greater loss of water and is more unprotected against possible risks; oily skin, with high sebaceous secretion; sensitive skin, very reactive to stimuli; and normal skin, with a perfect balance between water and sebum levels. It is therefore advisable to ask yourself “what type of skin do I have”, to go to a specialist for a skin type study and thus prevent future skin conditions, in addition to knowing the type of creams, shampoos and soaps that are suitable for each skin type.

Preparation for skin type studies

No specific preparation is necessary for the skin type study. In order for the specialist to analyze the skin correctly, it is recommended that you come with a well-washed face and without any traces of makeup or other cosmetic products.

What does it feel like during the test?

The test is completely painless, so the patient will not notice anything special.

Meaning of abnormal results

The results do not necessarily have to be abnormal. If they are not, and if the dermatology specialist finds any skin lesions, he or she will inform the patient of the best way to proceed.
